A team of elite wheelchair athletes will be participating in the five-kilometre race at the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon in Halifax this Sunday.
The team is called Global Wheelchair Athletics, and they travel around the world participating in various wheelchair racing events and competitions. Independent Living Nova Scotia, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities, is sponsoring the team’s Blue Nose Marathon debut.
Sherry Costa, executive director of ILNS, said the wheelchair racing team will help promote the charity, and show people that disabilities do not have to be a barrier to participating in sports or living a healthy life.
