A top Madison Avenue executive is resigning after his controversial comments about women and diversity in the workplace sparked a furor in ad land.

Saatchi & Saatchi Executive Chairman Kevin Roberts, who had been due to retire in May, will step down on Sept. 1, parent company Publicis Group said Wednesday in a statement.

Roberts told Business Insider that he did not believe the lack of women in senior roles was a problem and that the “f–king debate is all over” about diversity in the ad business.
