While the global gender pay gap (the GPG) is narrowing, the bad news is that the World Economic Forum (the WEF) has predicted that it will take until 2186 to close the gap – some 170 years! The Irish Government has committed to introducing gender reporting, which may be similar to the measures recently introduced in Britain.
Governments across the European Union and the US are tackling the gender gap by way of public mandatory GPG reporting, and this week the UK is following suit.
From 6 April 2017 UK employers with more than 250 employees will be required to publish annual gender pay and bonus figures online. Similar obligations are expected to come into force in Northern Ireland in June 2017.
