Promoting In Your Own Image: Implications For Diversity In Boardrooms And Business - FORBES

You have to at least wedge the door open before you can allow more people to walk through it — and you need support if it's a door heavy with history. Just 15% of all board seats across the world are held by women and in the last two years that figure has risen by a risible 3%. Is anyone laughing?

A global study of women in the boardroom has taken a region-by-region snapshot, seeking to analyze the relationship between corporate leadership and diversity. It finds a direct correlation between female leadership (ie: women in CEO or board chair positions) and the number of board seats held by women.

Women in the Boardroom: A Global Perspective, published by Deloitte Global, explores the efforts of more than 60 countries to promote boardroom gender diversity. It reports that companies with a female chair have nearly double (29%) the number of women serving on boards compared to the number of women on boards led by a male chair (16%). The numbers are nearly identical to this if you look at female leadership at CEO level. Women CEOs have company boards with 29% women, while businesses with men as CEOs manage female boardroom representation of just 15%, according to the report.
